One of the earliest diamond cuts developed. The old mine cut, also known as old miner cut or cushion cut, features 58 facets like todays modern brilliant cut. However, the diamond proportions are quite different.

Usually square or cushion-shape in appearance, the old mine cut can range from a very domed, high crown with a small table to an almost oval appearance. Because of the depth of old mine cut diamonds, many have been re-cut. Old mine cut diamonds have 58 facets.

In contrast, modern brilliant cut diamonds have a closed culet, a smaller crown and larger table, as shown to the right.
