Diamond Cuts
In 1919, Marcel Tolkowsky published Diamond Design, the first recorded analysis of "ideal cut" diamond proportions for round brilliant diamonds. His work was based on modern theories of light and those proportions that result in what many diamond professionals considered to be the best balance of brilliance and dispersion.
His work formed the basis for what is known as the "ideal cut" using 58 facets and the "superideal" cut which uses up to 105 facets.
At left is a list of the current diamond cutting styles for ideal cut diamonds and super-ideal cut diamonds available.
