The round Spirit Sun® diamond features 16 upper facets radiating from a center point, alternated by 16 lower facets that wink like a pinwheel against the light. This diamond posesses a remarkable amount of brilliance - up to 15% more than a standard brilliant diamond.
The cut was invented by the internationally known gem designer and cutter Bernd Munsteiner. The stone was cut and later fine-tuned by Dr. Freiesleben in Germany. The stones are now produced in Germany by him in small quantities, and can be hard to come by.
The cutting process requires excellent-quality rough diamonds and leaves a good deal of waste, making a Context Cut diamond 40% to 50% more expensive than a brilliant-cut diamond.
Context Cut diamonds are patented, trademarked and come with a serial number. Every diamond is laser-etched with a code.
A similar but square version is the Context Cut diamond.
