Diamond Cleaning

It can be hard keeping a diamond ring clean. Diamonds are natural grease attractors and can become coated with lotions, soaps, and skin oils very quickly. Once a week is not too often to clean a diamond ring that is worn daily.

The safest way to clean diamonds is to soak and wash them in warm sudsy water using a mild liquid detergent. Then dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Ethyl alcohol, ammonia solutions, and general jewelry cleaning solutions may also be used.

Ultrasonic and steam cleaners can be used to clean encrusted dirt. Be aware however that it can take hours to effectively clean a diamond ring.

Fracture-filled diamonds should not be cleaned in solutions that are acidic or which contain ammonia.

Do not use chloring solutions to clean rings as the chlorine can pit and dissolve gold alloys.
