Diamond Laser Drilling
Laser drilling is used to get rid of internal inclusions and thus enhance the clarity of diamonds. A laser beam is used to drill a small tunnel to the inclusion, where it is either vaporized, dissolved or bleached. Then the laser hole sometimes filled up with a substance in the same manner used for fracture-filled diamonds, although this isn't always done.
Laser drillings show up as a white dot when viewed face up and as a thin white line when viewed from the side. Laser drilling is a permanent treatment as it removes the inclusion.
As with any diamond treatments, laser drilled diamonds should be disclosed to the buyer.
