Jewelry Gypsy Setting at Diamonds Gemstones Jewelry
Jewelry Gypsy Setting

In a gypsy setting, a diamond or gemstone is placed into a grooved, tapered hole in the ring. The grooves hold the girdle and then the surrounding metal is pressed and hammered around the opening to secure the diamond.

The gypsy setting is a type of flush setting. It's distinguishing characteristic is that the metal at the top of the ring is much heavier than the bottom, forming a moderate to high metal dome.

Advantages

  • protects the girdle area
  • provides a smooth ring surface

Disadvantages

  • is more expensive than prong settings
  • high risk for damaging stones
