Akoya pearls are cultured saltwater pearls farmed mainly in Japan and China using several varieties of saltwater mollusks. The Akoya pearl is prized for its great luster and beauty. Akoya pearls range from 2mm to 10mm in size.
Akoyas are the pearls used in most pearl necklaces. Akoyas have overtone colors of rose and green. Common Akoya colors are white, yellow, pink, cream, rose, gold and blue-gray. The combinations of body colors and overtones most often seen are white-rose, pink-rose, cream-rose, and yellow-green.
