Synthetic Rubies
Synthetic rubies are rubies that are produced in a laboratory. Unlike simulated rubies, which look like rubies but differ from natural rubies physically and chemically, synthetic rubies duplicate natural rubies entirely. Synthetic rubies have been around since 1902.
Today, the Verneuil process is used to produce synthetic rubies. This process involves placing molten liquids in tear-shaped molds to crystallize. Synthetic rubies are very difficult to tell about from natural rubies without the use of specialized equipment and testing.
Here a some names of synthetic rubies on the market today:
- Chatham rubies
- Ramaura rubies
- Verneuil rubies
